Earlier, we reported that Teddy Riley may be moving onto SM Entertainment as a producer and other companies to work with "surprise artists." The artist behind Korean songs such as "Demon" and "DR. FEEL GOOD" revealed through tweets that he would have a press conference sometime this week revealing news on Rania as well as his upcoming work.
He revealed that he thought the girls would "be better with [him] in SM Entertainment." Koreaboo, after learning this news, dug into the reasons and issues surrounding Rania and Teddy Riley. We spoke to the founder of PMG (Professional Music Group), Ruk, about the issue and whether or not Teddy Riley had fully dissolved his association with Dr. Music, the representatives of Rania. The representative confirmed that PMG would no longer work with Rania or Dr. Music, stating, "Teddy and PMG have elected to remove ourselves from Rania unfortunately. And there will be some televised press conferences where most of this stuff will be explained in detail."
It's being discovered that Dr. Music had decided to use the album title, "Teddy Riley, The First Expansion in Asia," for Rania's first album without the explicit permission of Teddy Riley. The company created the group Rania by aggressively using Teddy Riley's name in their marketing. This was something that created tension between PMG and Dr. Music. PMG revealed to Koreaboo, "[We] feel that Dr. Music is a smaller company that banked on [PMG] using Teddy's name to break [Rania] into an arena where large companies dominate. However, where they were at fault [is that] they were not honest in the way they [did business], using Teddy's name and credibility."
PMG further revealed, "In a nutshell, they paid us for music and told the world that [Rania] was Teddy's group and he made all the decisions. In reality, it was just the opposite. Teddy didn't even know the girls 4 years ago. He met them in September with the rest of PMG. Dr. Music made the group, paid for the production through PMG and misrepresented the entire situation in Asia.". Ruk, owner of PMG, told Koreaboo that Teddy and PMG had no involvement in the choreography, outfitting and press releases concerning Rania.
Furthermore, PMG did not believe the profit-sharing distribution was fair to themselves and heavily favoured Dr. Music. When asked about the treatment of Rania by Dr. Music, PMG founder Ruk stated, "The things I know about the treatment of [Rania] internationally at Dr. Music, I can't discuss for the safety of [the] members. [However], I will say they are in a military style environment."
There have also been rumours going around of a relationship scandal with Rania member, Jooyi (Lucy) and PMG's Ruk. However, when asked about the relationship and whether rumours were based on truth, he denied it saying, "I will say that a relationship in any idol group will negatively impact any one members working environment. And I have a great friendship with all the members of Rania equally, not just Jooyi." We pushed further wanting a definitive answer and was told that the relationship rumour was, "simply rumour."
So, what lies ahead for PMG and Teddy now? It seems that the producer and company will be working with the likes of Girls' Generation, 4minute and 2ne1. Although these are still not confirmed, as the company told Koreaboo they could not reveal details until their press conference. The company showed great regret in having to leave Rania, saying they would gladly take the girls with them to whatever company they go to next, but revealed they could not because of Rania's contractual obligations to Dr. Music.
How do you feel about this entire situation? Are you sad to hear that Teddy Riley will be leaving Rania behind and will no longer produce their music?
