The MTV Video Music Aid Japan Awards will begin on June 25th at 6:00pm JST. With a stellar lineup of top world stars such as Lady Gaga, Tokio Hotel, EXILE, Monkey Majik, Namie Amuro, and UK rock band One Night Only performing to benefit the Japanese Red Cross, the event will kick off MTV Japan’s “MUSIC OF HOPE” campaign, which is a response to the recent earthquake and tsunami.
We reported that SNSD (Shouji Jidai) and SHINee will make an appearance at the 10th annual VMAJ, but they are also scheduled to perform. The girl group has been nominated for Best Group Video, Best Video of the Year, and Best Karaoke Song for their debut Japanese single, “Genie”. Many are eagerly anticipating to see if the girls will emerge as winners at the one of the most prestigious music awards shows in the world.
Hosted by Japanese pop sensation AKB48, the event is designed to inspire and rally music fans to contribute their time and/or funds to recovery and rebuilding efforts. “MUSIC OF HOPE” features inspirational music videos, live performances, artist interviews, exclusive news and stories about artists and young people who have been impacted by the disaster. MTV Japan is currently taking donations on their website at http://www.mtvjapan.com/vmaj/en/
Guest celebrities attending the high-profile awards ceremony include Thelma Aoyama, Beni, solo artist Yuya Matsushita, boy band W-inds, MiChi, Anna Tsuchiya, and the Shibuhara Girls.
