Daesung apologizes to motorcycle victim's family

Local Korean media, Dispatch, revealed that Big Bang’s Daesung has made his first public move since the incident with a motorcyclist last Tuesday. The family reported, “Daesung came a little while ago with YG officials. We received an apology from Daesung and YG and spoke of future arrangements.” Daesung’s visited the mortuary around 10:30PM on June 2, together with 5 YG officials and lawyers.

The family admitted that they had initially been disappointed with the delay of the apology saying, “A person just died. And Daesung was involved in the accident. We thought, above all, a sincere apology would have been the first thing to do.”

They had grown increasingly frustrated with YG’s explanations to the press and their insistence that “Daesung was driving at 60km/hour” and that most people “wouldn’t have been able to avoid the victim as well.”

YG now explains that the delayed visit was mostly due to Daesung’s severe mental distraught over the incident, with the singer reportedly experiencing mental pain, eating difficulties, and a failure to communicate with his own concerned parents and family. People close to Daesung have commented on Daesung’s nature and potential to react this way, including YG’s CEO, Yang Hyunseok, and former Family Outing cast-member, Lee Hyori. Escalated public attention was also attributed to the delay.

A YG official had first apologised; a family member reported that Daesung had seemed to be in too much agony to even speak. However, upon a request by the victim’s friend, Daesung “went on to apologize to the parents and each family member of the victim, bowing his head.”

The family said, “At first, I was mad about it, but after meeting Daesung in person, I felt bad for the young man. He really looked in pain. He was involved in such a horrible accident at a young age, and I’m sure it came as a huge shock to him.”

Brief mention of future funeral arrangements was made with Daesung agreeing to take care of all funeral costs. Further details are to be arranged following police investigations. The family of the victim said, “We heard that there was an investigation and the CCTV were being reviewed."

It seems a wish for peace and closure is all that is wanted, with the family saying, “The most important thing at the moment is the truth. Daesung apologized sincerely and promised to fully cooperate with proceedings in the future, so we’re going to trust him.”

“The dead cannot speak for themselves,” the family continued to say. “But at least they shouldn't have to feel victimized. We hope for a clear investigation and to find the truth behind this whole accident. None of the parties involved should feel as if this is unfair or feel victimized. The police are currently the only people we can trust."
