On June 24th, the first twin veterans of the Korean music industry, Ryanghyun and Ryangha, made their first appearance in seven years on KBS’s ‘Reserve‘.
The boys debuted back in 2001 with their first album, “Twin Power“, and made a brief return in 2004 with “Bleu“. They were just 13 years old at the time of their debut and made headlines right and left for their cute twin looks. Needless to say, they were a big hit, but never made a return after that, leading many to wonder where they had disappeared to.
On the show, the boys finally explained what had happened: “We were on the news for our dancing once. JYP Entertainment’s J.Y. Park saw it and contacted us the very next day. We trained under him for a year and debuted with our title track, ‘We Didn’t Go to School‘. At the time, we were too young to know what fame was and just enjoyed our careers.”
When asked why they had such a long hiatus, they replied, “It was all J.Y. Park’s idea. He wanted us to show what we were like as children, and then show what we are like as adults. ‘Time’ was our concept. We were waiting for people to not recognize us anymore, but people still did even after some substantial time passed; this was the reason why we went to the army when we turned 20 years old. Now that we’re out, people don’t recognize us anymore.”
They continued, “We weren’t so worried about our long hiatus as much as those around us were. They were concerned over our careers since it got to be so long. Continuing to hear that almost brought us to the point of depression, but we were each other’s source of strength, which is how we overcame it.”
